Raisin Bread has a long history with references and recipes found in many regions of the world. Massachusetts lore has attributed the invention of Raisin Bread to Henry David Thoreau but published recipes for bread with raisins actually date back to 1671.
Many cultures have included raisins in bread over the years. You’ll find raisins in German Stollen, Russian Kulich and Italian Panettone as well as traditional Jewish Challah with raisins. It has been enjoyed for breakfast as raisin toast or dipped in an egg mixture to make a delicious French toast. It was popular in England in the latter half of the 1800’s as a treat served with afternoon tea and is still enjoyed today as an afternoon or late night snack.
As the weather gets cooler it’s the perfect time to enjoy a favorite comfort food like our White Whole Wheat Cinnamon Swirl Bread with Raisins (#6237).
